Description

"La Plage de Calvi, Corsica" is an iconic vintage travel poster by Roger Broders, featuring a sweeping curve of the shoreline and a bathing beauty.

About the design

The poster was created by Roger Broders in 1928 for the French Railways. It depicts the beach of Calvi on the northwest coast of Corsica. The poster is known for its Art Deco style and bright, vivid colours. It features an elegantly-attired woman on a 4-mile long stretch of sand at the foot of the 13th-century Citadel, with a ship in the background indicating travel by PLM railway.

The poster is also notable for its reference to Botticelli's "The Birth of Venus," evident in the pose of the central figure. This piece is considered one of Broders' finest works and is a testament to his skill in creating visually compelling travel posters.
